Neringa Municipality faces unique conditions in traffic and business since the situation changes drastically between summer and winter seasons. During the summer season traffic increases extremely. The main traffic relates to tourists visiting the area, but also goods traffic reaching local business, mostly active during the summer months. During the winter season only a few business stays open and the main traffic flows consist of local inhabitants and freight transports. Facing these differences Neringa Municipality joined the Low Carbon Logistics project 2016 and now hopes to achieve a positive influence on local business making the small pilot investment to make the freight transports more efficient.
Neringa Municipality organizes regular local team meetings, in which stakeholders are actively involved. The latest meeting was held on November 27th. During the workshop, the situation of the municipality was analyzed by evaluating various factors relevant to both business and the local community. This assessment of the situation allows us to see a more concrete vision of the model being implemented. The main effect of changing situation in Neringa Municipality is to increase number of electric vehicles, in pursuance of lowering CO2 emissions, noise level and creating healthier, cleaner and safer environment for tourists and residents in Curonian Spit!
